Duties

Help
  • Serve as the point of contact that provides expertise and professional, technical, and clinical expertise to the management and administration of the occupational health program and Occupational Health Unit(OHU).
  • Interpret clinical program requirements; formulate policies, methods, and procedures; and monitor, review, evaluate and assess the integrity and quality of clinical aspects of NCTR's occupational health and safety program.
  • Provide physical examinations and first aid for all on the job injuries or illnesses.
  • Provide OHSA mandated training in the areas of respiratory protection and blood borne pathogens/universal precautions and oversees a medical surveillance program.
  • Responsible for all medical evaluations, training and fit testing associated with Respiratory Protection Program.
  • Provide advisory services, maintains professional competence, and serve as a source of information and advice to senior scientific researchers, laboratory personnel, and others, on occupational health-related issues and concerns.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuing education, membership in professional societies, attendance at conferences and seminars, and keeping abreast of current publications in area of specialization.

Qualifications

The position of NURSE falls under the 0610 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-12, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 09/18/2018.
Applicants must possess the Basic Requirement, License Requirement and Specialized Experience as follows:

BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Possess a degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time I completed by the program. (Please submit appropriate documents) Failure to provide appropriate document will result in no further consideration for this position.

AND

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
A. Have an active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. NOTE: An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained. OR

B. Have an active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States, BUT I have graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months and my registration as a professional nurse is pending.

AND

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of GS 11 or band level of responsibility in the Federal service managing or administering an occupational health program; applying and implementing Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations to a research facility/laboratory and its employees; and providing nursing care/medical tests to employees.


In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
