As a Lead Conciliation Specialist you will provide facilitation, mediation, and conciliation services for communities facing conflicts and tensions arising from jurisdictional categories included in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Hate Crimes Prevention Act (HCPA) of 2009, you will mitigate conflicts, and support communities working to prevent or respond to bias incidents and hate crimes committed on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or religion. More specifically:
You will serve in a leadership capacity during inter-regional deployment or assignment to handle regional case-related issues.
You will propose draft deployment operation plans to the Regional Director and Associate Director.
You will develop community-related consultation strategies, trainings, mediation, and facilitation techniques to address community issues.
You will review conflict assessment data from multiple States and locations to identify trends and patterns that may have national impact.
You will build working relationships with community leaders, law enforcement, and school district leaders to conduct outreach.
You will lead other conciliation specialists by ensuring responses to inquiries are prompt, mentoring, and conducting quality control checks and providing feedback on reports and service deliverables.
You must successfully pass a security/background investigation and a drug screening.
You must be a current Federal employee within the Department of Justice on a Competitive Service appointment.
You must meet all applicable time-in-grade requirements by the closing of this announcement.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Lead Conciliation Specialist, (GS-0101-14), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade.
If you are a current federal employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Basic Requirements
Degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
or
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
or
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
TRANSCRIPTS are required to verify satisfactory completion of the educational requirement listed above.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
For the GS-14, you must have one year of experience at a level of complexity and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade in the federal service. To qualify at the GS-14 grade, your resume must show experience in at least two of the following:
1. Delivering Facilitated dialogue and consultation services to community groups experiencing conflict or tension. Examples include tensions relating to police-community relations; tensions or hate incidents related to race, color, or national origin; or hate incidents related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or disability status.
2. Assisting Community groups with developing and implementing plans to reduce or resolve tension, conflict, or prevent or respond to actual (or perceived) hate crimes.
3. Conducting mediation between parties when conflict or tension related to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability status arises in a community.
