As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will advise the Office Director and other senior managers within the Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, the Department of Energy, and external audiences concerning Fossil Energy and Carbon Management programs, activities, issues, and ways to enhance public understanding of energy issues.

Duties

Help

As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:

  • Plan, direct and execute internal and external communications agendas for assigned functional or program areas.
  • Oversee the development of communications, outreach, and promotional materials to convey complex information involving highly visible and controversial issues.
  • Formulate and approve communication strategies that include both short and long term goals and objectives to facilitate support and understanding from local, national, and international media; industry; other federal agencies; Congress; the general public; and across the DOE using a wide variety of communications media.
  • Serve as official representative for Director-Level Senior Staff at public engagements and events.
  • Develop or approve content for social media or feature items on both technical and non-technical subjects.
  • Provide leadership in developing and executing special projects to meet public information, education, and other needs.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

  • Designing and implementing proactive social media and social networking platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Researching, writing, and editing with the functionality of these social networking platforms including automated posting tools, social monitoring, and analytics tools.
  • Creating and managing content across major social platforms.
