As a Records & Information Management Specialist, you will:

  • Evaluates and analyzes existing records management practices and policies and proposes changes to increase efficiency, effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Evaluates alternatives for records storage.
  • Analyzes long-term growth needs and develops strategies to accommodate growth. Establishes and administers centralized control systems for electronic and paper records. Monitors records destruction lists submitted by Office departments and contractors to ensure compliance.
  • Identify program-specific records and ensures they are listed on a National Archives and Records System (NARA)-approved records disposition schedule; identifies vital records; ensures recordkeeping requirements are established and kept current; ensures personnel with records management responsibilities receive appropriate records management training;
  • Ensure departing Federal and contractor employees identify and transfer any records in their custody to an appropriate custodian; either the Records Management Coordinator (RMC) or the person assuming responsibility for the work; ensures permanent records are preserved and temporary records are retired, transferred, or destroyed promptly according to NARA-approved records disposition schedules.
  • Ensure paper recordkeeping requirements are maintained and kept current. Develop and maintains the OAM system for electronic/paper copies of documents released to the public.
  • Provide weekly status report to OAM Management on pending requests. Participates in meetings, trainings, seminars, and other activities to improve FOIA program.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-01 or GS-07. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience administering records management programs to develop and refine a records management plan consistent with the Federal Records Act and its implementing regulations as well as Departmental records policies.
Examples of Specialized Experience Include:
1. Evaluate and analyze existing records management practices and policies and proposes changes
2. Provide records management consultative services to federal and contractor staff regarding records management services, requirements, and options, including training.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must meet all of the requirements as described in this section. If you are eligible for career transition assistance plans such as ICTAP or CTAP, you must meet the definition of "well qualified" which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.

Management (RIM) Specialist with responsibility for serving as NA-APM's liaison and advisor
for the maintenance and disposition of NA-APM agency records and requests for information
pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA).
