This position is part of the WAPA-UGP-Upper Great Plains. As a HV Electrician Lineman, you serve as a Journeyman level HV Lineman. You will erect and repair transmission/distribution power lines for Western Area Power Administration within their covered territory.

Duties

Help

Linemen perform the following: Erect and repair transmission/distribution power lines. Inspect electric power transmission lines including steel towers and wood poles from vehicles, on foot, or from aircraft. Inspect for damage to wood poles, cross arms, grounds, X-braces, loose bolts, broken or flashed insulators, missing or damaged vibration dampers, damaged or missing spacer dampers, damaged conductors or overhead ground wires, bent or missing steel members, and missing cotter keys. Maintain records of deficiencies either on patrol sheets or electronically. Install and replace poles, cross arms, line hardware, lightning arresters, fiber optic, and auxiliary equipment. String conductor, optical ground wire (OPGW), and fiber optic cable from structure to structure; splice conductor when broken; replace poles; and work on energized lines requiring the use of hotline tools and bare hand techniques. Repair requiring power outages are scheduled and coordinated by others. Climb transmission structures averaging 65 feet, but up to 500 feet on occasion, and communication towers up to 400 feet.

Qualifications

Qualifications: You must have journeyman-level ability in the duties of an HV Electrician Lineman. You must meet all the qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

The incumbent is required wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
You will be required to possess a pair of fully-encased safety-toed footwear meeting the standard ASTM F 2413-05 upon reporting to work.
The incumbent must wear Arc rated protective clothing when in proximity to exposed energized circuits.
This position may require regular and recurring overtime. Overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, Holidays and weekends in support of related mission requirements.
The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to operate vehicles of more than 26,000 pounds GVWR. The CDL must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
The position requires that ability to operate a government vehicle. The incumbent must be at least 18 years of age, able to obtain and maintain a Defensive Drivers certification and have a valid state driver's license. Defensive Driver's Training will be completed upon employment.
This position requires the incumbent to climb transmission structures averaging 65 feet but up to 500 feet on occasion and communication towers up to 400 feet.
This position requires a climbing weight (personal weight without gear) not to exceed 280 pounds. To be determined at the time of the pre-employment and annual physical.
Travel of up to 50% annually, with overnight travel of 11 or more nights may be required.
The incumbent is subject to the random drug and alcohol testing program established by the Department of Energy.
The position requires a pre-appointment and annual physical exam at Federal expense.
The incumbent of this position is subject to inclement weather conditions such as high temperatures, rain, sleet, snow, and extreme cold.
This position is subject to regular and recurring overtime. Overtime may be on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends in support of related mission requirements.
