As a Supervisory External Affairs Specialist, you will:

  • Serve as the External Affairs team supervisor and senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) with primary responsibility of providing technical and administrative supervision to team members and responding to inquiries from Tribal elected leaders and/or their delegates such as leadership of Tribal governments, institutions, legislators, regulators and the general public.
  • Organize meetings, briefings, supplementary materials to prepare for senior Indian Energy officials' presence at conferences, working groups, roundtables, legislative and regulatory meetings.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Director and Deputy Director of Indian Energy and staff on outreach and communication strategy involving a wide range of written materials for journals and various media, the program website, and other on-line communication tools as well as event planning and coordination.
  • Oversee the coordination and interaction with Program Offices, DOE Staff Offices and other Federal agencies at senior and leadership levels as well as tribal, state local, local government and other stakeholders in implementing Indian Energy initiatives.
  • Lead teams to support quick turnaround presentation to audiences.
  • Assess the need for new communication approaches to ensure accurate information is relayed regarding Indian Energy programs.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:

  1. Developing/Executing effective communication strategies pertaining to the complex relationship between federally-recognized tribal governments and communities AND
  2. Writing and editing speeches, press releases, and other materials to support federal presentation to a variety of geographically and culturally diverse tribal audiences and receipt of complex subject matter to and from tribal governments, institutions and programs AND
  3. Overseeing effective outreach activities for Federal, State, and local Tribal programs.
