The Department of Energy's mission is to ensure America's security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.

The Office of Environment, Health, Safety, and Security office is responsible for policy development and technical assistance; safety analysis; and corporate safety and security programs.

As a Special Agent - Executive Tactical Transporter, you will:

  • Provides executive protection services, often on short notice, for the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Energy, and other designated DOE Executives.
  • Conducts comprehensive threat assessments and vulnerability analyses for all movements, including planning and surveying routes and coordinating with law enforcement.
  • Performs tactical driving operations, ensuring safe and timely transportation of protectees in various conditions.
  • Assists in establishing and staffing command post centers, including installing and maintaining specialized equipment and monitoring security operations.
  • Supports investigations into security incidents and prepares detailed investigative leads for criminal investigators.
  • Manages the planning, building, purchasing, and maintenance of armored protective vehicles.

  • Mandatory Age Requirement: In accordance with Title 5, U.S.C., §3307, this position requires that the person must not be over the age of 37 at the time of appointment.
  • The incumbent of this position is subject to random drug testing. The incumbent must pass urinalysis testing prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • This position requires that the incumbent meet initial and continuing qualifications in the use of firearms as outlined in the Gun Control Act of 1968, amended by the Lautenberg Amendment of 1996.
  • The incumbent may be required to qualify for United States Marshal Service Special Deputation status.
  • The incumbent of this position will also be required to complete an SF-312, Classified Non-Disclosure Agreement.
  • Frequent temporary travel may be required, both domestically and overseas, from one (1) to 30 days. Extensive overtime may also be required in performing certain work assignments.
  • The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator's license while employed in the position and will be required to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with applicable OPM regulations and related requirements.
  • Incumbent must complete the Uniform Police Training Program (UPTP) within twenty-four months of employment.
  • Incumbent must complete the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) and Protective Operations Training Program within the twenty-four months of employment.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level n the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:

1. Performing tactical vehicle operations; AND
2. Performing risk management or protective operations; AND
3. Conducting liaison and collaboration with law enforcement or security partners.

CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must (1) meet all of the requirements as described in this section; and 2) be rated "well-qualified", which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.
