This position is part of the Office of Environment, Health, Safety, and Security, Department of Energy. As a Supervisory Criminal Investigator, you will be planning, supervising, and leading all assigned programs, systems, and work processes to perform critical mission and support activities required of the group which ensure the timely delivery and support in criminal investigations and executive protection functions within the Office of Executive Protection.

As a Supervisory Criminal Investigator, you will

  • Plan, supervise, and direct criminal investigators and manages day-to-day operations and oversight of investigative activities within the Office of Executive Protection.
  • Direct, plan, and coordinate protective operations for senior DOE Officials, including assessing and recommending protection strategies based on threat intelligence.
  • Ensure agents and support personnel are trained and certified, conducting workforce planning, and managing employee performance and administrative matters.
  • Assign and oversee complex criminal and security investigations, including analyzing classified information, managing casework, and determining necessary interagency involvement.
  • Conduct comprehensive criminal investigations, including interviewing witnesses and suspects, collecting evidence, conducting surveillance, and executing legal processes.
  • Support Federal Enduring Constitutional Government (ECG) and Continuity of Operations (COOP) programs by ensuring Departmental leadership safety during emergencies and maintaining liaison with law enforcement organizations for domestic threat analysis.

  • Must be available to work an average of twenty (20) additional hours per pay period to meet requirements of the Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP), as prescribed in Title 5 United States Code, Section 5545.
  • The incumbent may be required to be deputized as a Special Deputy U. S. Marshal.
  • The travel requirements normally result in the incumbent being away from home for approximately one week over a monthly period.
  • Position is designated as an emergency essential employee. Functions of this position are critical to agency operations in dismissal or closure situations.
  • Criminal Investigator (GS-1811) positions generally carry a mandatory maximum entry age of 40 in accordance with applicable regulations and DOE policy.

Qualifications

Medical Requirements

The duties of positions in this series require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:

  • Leading and managing complex criminal investigations, including developing investigative strategies, overseeing evidence collection and analysis, and ensuring legal and procedural compliance; AND
  • Supervising and directing a team of criminal investigators, including managing performance, providing guidance, and ensuring accountability for mission objectives.
