The National Wildlife Health Center in the Midcontinent Region of the USGS provides technical assistance and leadership for addressing health issues involving resources under the Department of the Interior stewardship, fosters partnerships with federal, state, and other agencies to address wildlife health as a component of ecosystem health. The Center investigates highly infectious diseases and other diseases affecting a broad spectrum of wildlife by a multi-disciplinary team of specialists who provide an integrated program of disease diagnosis, field response, technical assistance, research, training, and support services. The Center's research focuses on understanding the ecology of disease to identify the most vulnerable linkages among affected host species, the disease agent, and environmental factors resulting in disease. Our programs aim to use this information to mitigate factors leading to population decline and result the integration of information to develop effective disease prevention and control strategies to assist resource managers improve management of wildlife populations.
As a Management Analyst within the National Wildlife Health Center, some of your specific duties will include:

Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-9 level: One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-7 level work include assisting in: 1) Research and investigations of new and improved business and management practices; 2) development of management and program evaluation plans, procedures, and methodology; 3) management surveys to determine compliance with regulations, procedures, sound management practices and effective utilization of staff. This level of work typically involved following established methods and procedures or detailed instructions; using some judgment in applying analytical techniques; solving minor problems and making routine decisions.
**OR applicants may substitute successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B or J.D if related). (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours, or the equivalent).
**OR a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and graduate education (as described above) that is beyond the first year of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements.
Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-11 level: One year of specialized experience in or directly related to this position that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, the required specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-9 level work: 1) Participating in the identification and development of data required for use in the management and direction of programs; 2) preparing guidance documents for work plans; 3) researching program methods and establishing procedures for program requirements. Assignments were made with the objectives, priorities, and deadlines defined. Work was planned and carried out independently in accordance with proven techniques, methods, and practices. Controversial use of approaches or modifications of standard procedures were typically discussed with a designated person before being carried out.
**OR applicants may substitute successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (such as an LL.M, if related). (54 semester hours, 81 quarter hours, or the equivalent).
