- The incumbent of this position is in the Internship Program, a component of Pathways, for current students accepted for enrollment in qualifying educational programs. This position is established to provide meaningful work and experience and expose the student to the role and duties of Compliance Specialist and Tribal Liaison.
- The CR Program reviews all park project proposals, sometimes more than 200 per year, for compliance with CR and Tribal Consultation law and policy. The incumbent will gain practical experience in application and understanding of the National Historic
Preservation Act (NHPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Tribal Consultation Executive Order 13175.
- Receives advanced instruction designed to familiarize incumbent with functions and operations of cultural (some natural) resources compliance and tribal consultation at Yosemite National Park and to provide experience in the practical application of tribal consultation law (Executive Order 13175 and others), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) as part of YOSE Compliance Team.
- As assigned, researches daily and unexpected issues that arise through independent study, developmental tasks, literature review, and field work to foster expansion of knowledge about the interplay between cultural and natural resources, tribal perspectives, and
landscape level phenomena. Topics may include administrative project history research, coordination with other park divisions and other parks, and ethnographic research for a variety of purposes including tribal information requests, ethnographies, compliance
background information, park management plans, cultural landscape reports, and archeological studies. Assists with coordinating research, drafting-reviewing documents, and document organization-filing. These assignments will inform higher-graded
professionals in the implementation of compliance and program project goals.
