  • As a Government Information Specialist in the Office of Communication and Education (OCE), Division of Information Disclosure (DID), you will:
  • Perform analysis and evaluation on FOIA requests and disclosures to the public to ensure compliance with FOIA laws, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Interpret and apply disclosure laws, case law, regulations, policies, and precedents in order to reach conclusions regarding the release of requested information.
  • Communicate FOIA requirements effectively, to include preparation of positions papers, recommendations, memos and general correspondence.

Qualifications

The position of Government Information Specialist falls under the 0306 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet the following:

Minimum Qualifications
For the GS-13 level, you must possess one year of experience, equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service, experience includes:

Applying the Freedom of Information Act, Privacy Act, and other applicable federal statutes to information disclosure request activities;

Reviewing and analyzing records to determine whether Freedom of Information Act exemptions are applicable; AND

Redacting information from documents that are exempt from disclosure in accordance to Freedom of Information
