Duties

Help
  • Serve as a scientific expert, familiarity with scientific developments in the field of epidemiology.
  • Analyze data obtained from epidemiologic studies and surveillance systems designed to investigate tobacco use behavior, its determinants, and/or health impacts.
  • Evaluate epidemiologic protocols, proposals, study reports and other submissions.
  • Coordinate and conduct epidemiologic studies and analyses to inform product regulation.
  • Communicate findings of scientific research and product reviews in writing through white papers, memos and peer-reviewed literature.
  • Develop and maintain collaborations within professional and scientific organizations in the field of tobacco epidemiology to advance the Center for Tobacco Products mission.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
In order be eligible for the position of Epidemiologist,
(GS-0601-12/13), you must meet the following requirements...

BASIC REQUIREMENT: This position has a Basic Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR). In order to meet the basic IOR you must possess a Bachelor's degree or higher graduate degree in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. You must submit an unofficial transcript to show that you meet the basic IOR in order to be considered for this position.

In addition to the Basic Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) you must also meet the following specialized experience requirement:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

For GS-12:
You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent at to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, analyzing, evaluating, and providing advice to scientific and program specialists on epidemiologic issues; reviewing, evaluating, and synthesizing epidemiologic evidence; and making presentations and responding to inquiries.

For GS-13:
You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service,analyzing, evaluating and advising scientific and program specialists on epidemiologic issues; critically reviewing, evaluating, and synthesizing epidemiologic evidence; collecting, analyzing and interpreting technical scientific data as part of epidemiologic studies; and making presentations, responding to inquiries and writing reports
