Help

Major Duties of this position include:

  • Plan, lead, and supervise the daily operational maintenance of custodial duties and buildings and utilities.
  • Ensures necessary plans, materials, supplies, equipment, and tools are available when needed for project including, but not limited to carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.
  • Checks work in orders and upon completion to determine/ensure Facility Operations Supervisor's instructions are being followed to meet deadlines.
  • Reports progress and delay to ensure Facility Operations Supervisor is aware on overall operations and problems.
  • Serves at Contracting Officer's Representative in construction, action and contracted maintenance project.
  • Operates passenger vehicles, pick-up trucks, stake bed trucks, dump trucks, snowplow, forklift, backhoe, bucket trucks and tows various trailers

Salary Clarification:
WS 10 step 1: $42.77 per hour
WS 10 step 2: $44.55 per hour
WS 10 step 3: $46.34 per hour
WS 10 step 4: $48.12 per hour
WS 10 step 5: $49.90 per hour

First time hires to the Federal Government normally start at the step 1 rate.

You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  • You may be required to work overtime.
  • You must live within the local commuting area (within 50 miles of Boise, Idaho). Accepted documents for verifying proof of residence include mortgage or deed (name and address included), lease/rental agreement (current and signed) or utility bill or service statement (recent, typically within 30-90 days with name and address).
  • This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period.

Qualifications

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1 year probationary or 2-year trial period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

This probationary or trial period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider:

In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.

Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your written resume that you have the ability to independently do the work of the position, as defined below, without more than normal supervision. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Qualifications: Implementing, supervising and overseeing both long-term and daily operations for a maintenance facility. This includes supervising the repair and upkeep of facilities, utilities, roads, grounds, trails, fences, day-use areas, etc.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
  1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT)
  2. Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair etc.
  3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  4. Use of measuring instruments.
  5. Ability to Interpret Instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)

Physical Demands: The incumbent performs work and inspects jobs in difficult to reach areas which require physical
dexterity to include pinching, grasping, reaching, pulling, pushing, and climbing. The access to
areas may be overhead, interstitial spaces, confined areas, crawlspaces, rooftops, and ladders, for
long periods of time. Incumbent frequently lifts objects of up to fifty pounds.


Working Conditions: The incumbent works frequently around infrastructure systems to include high voltage electrical,
pressurized gases, high temperature water and other potentially hazardous systems. All work effort
must be in compliance with applicable codes and standards as well as OSHA requirements. Work
environment may be indoor or outdoor to include freezing temperatures, high temperatures as well
as wet, dry, icy, or snowy conditions.

The duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service (USWFS), an organization within the Department of the Interior (DOI), responds to wildfires and promotes fire-resilient landscapes across more than 500 million acres of public and tribal lands nationwide. The USWFS has full program authority and coordinates the DOI wildland fire management program in its entirety. It ensures coordination within DOI, the Bureaus it serves, other federal agencies -- particularly the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service -- as well as non-federal agencies, state foresters, tribes, and a variety of stakeholder groups representing volunteer firefighters.
