At the full performance level (WG-09) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform preventive maintenance to all plumbing and mechanical equipment and parts. Install, modify, and repair plumbing fixtures (bathtubs, showers, toilets, sinks, water fountains, and their associated hardware).
Clean gravity type sewage drain lines, repairs or replaces potable water lines, and make connections and repairs to water mains and fire hydrants.
Install, repair, and perform preventive maintenance to heating and cooling systems (including low pressure hot water and evaporative type coolers).
Pack valve stems, service check valves, flanges, altitude valves, gauges, and all pumping equipment used in water systems.
May perform minor carpentry in repairs related to the plumbing work such as replacing floor tiles, bath tiles, panels, etc., that might be required in the maintenance of facilities.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

Make plumbing repairs that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing and sealing defective parts of utility, supply and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile pipe, and leaky drains;
Complete needed repairs and hook up to installed systems such things as water heaters, disposal units and faucets;
Use basic mathematics (e.g., addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and simple fractions) to perform repairs; and
Use basic tools and equipment such as tapes, rules, hacksaws, hand and power pipe threaders and cutters, packing and caulking irons and pipe wrenches.

Physical Demands: Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms in hard-to-reach places. Often works in excavated holes in water and mud and is subjected to odors and irritants. The work typically performed requires considerable standing, stooping, ending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up equipment that may exceed 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is completed both inside and outside in dirty, greasy areas. May work in all types of weather conditions, including long periods of exposure to hot sun and bad weather, such as rain, snow and/or high winds. Incumbent is exposed to dirt, dust, spray and fumes; possible bites of poisonous and nonpoisonous insects; and broken bones, cuts, bruises, etc.
Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.
