Help

  • Provides routine maintenance on park facilities including minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Assist higher-graded maintenance employees in the performance of maintenance tasks.
  • Safely and effectively, uses hand power tools required for the job and has the ability to maintain these tools properly.

Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.

  • UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime, depending on location.
  • TRAVEL: You may be required to travel occasionally. You may be required to obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. QUALIFICATIONS:

To qualify for this position at the WG-4749-05 level you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
  1. Ability To Do The Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT). Able to perform common tasks associated with maintenance work including facility maintenance and repair of residential and commercial buildings including carpentry, painting, minor plumbing, and electrical work.
  2. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  3. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.
  4. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic).

AREA INFORMATION FOR BOTH PARKS:


Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, located in the scenic Texas Hill Country near Johnson City and Stonewall, preserves the life and legacy of the 36th President of the United States. The park encompasses historic homes, the LBJ Ranch (known as the "Texas White House"), visitor centers, and cultural landscapes that tell the story of President Johnson's personal and political journey. Visitors and employees alike enjoy a unique setting that combines American history, natural beauty, and public service in one of the nation's most comprehensive presidential park sites.


Saratoga National Historical Park (NHP) is located in eastern upstate New York. The region experiences a wide range of seasonal temperatures, with summer highs reaching approximately 100°F and winter lows dropping to around -15°F. The area receives an average annual snowfall of 61.9 inches.

A full range of amenities-including shopping, medical and dental services, religious institutions, schools, and recreational facilities-is available within a short drive of the park. Saratoga Springs is located approximately 20 minutes to the north, while Albany is about 44 minutes to the south. Housing options in the region vary from rural settings to urban environments, offering choices suitable for a wide range of preferences.

Saratoga NHP consists of multiple units, all located within a short driving distance of one another:

  • The 9.5-square-mile Saratoga Battlefield in Stillwater
  • The General Philip Schuyler House, approximately 7 miles north of the Battlefield
  • The Saratoga Monument, a 155-foot obelisk commemorating the American victory, located about 7.5 miles north of the Battlefield
  • Victory Woods, a 22-acre parcel marking British General John Burgoyne's final encampment before his surrender
  • The Saratoga Surrender Site, an outdoor memorial marking the location of the British surrender following the Battle of Saratoga
