Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.

Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Cumberland Island National Seashore is Mid-January thru December but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.

Duties:

As a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Provides direction and leadership to subordinate staff in the accomplishment of daily maintenance operations.
  • Develops annual work plans to accomplish park goals and objectives and conducts annual condition assessment of assets.
  • Determines resource requirements, requisitions needed supplies, materials, equipment and tools needed for the accomplishment of work.
  • Organizes work projects or activities and determines how assignments can be accomplished concurrently.
  • Inspects work in progress and/or upon completion to assure compliance with instructions, plans and other specifications.
  • Serves as Contracting Officers Technical Representative (COTR), on contracted work.

  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a current Water Systems Operators Certificate, and you must be able to secure and maintain a valid Georgia Department of Health Services Class IV Small Water Systems Operators Certificate. Please indicate the level of certification you currently possess.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 nights per month.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. A Recruitment Incentive May Be Authorized for a newly selected employee when appointed to a permanent, temporary, or term position. A Federal employee who is transferring to the National Park Service from another component, bureau or Federal agency and who does not meet the conditions under 5 CFR §575.102 is not eligible for a recruitment incentive.

A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.

Physical Demands: Frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, crawling, climbing, stretching, pushing, pulling, and kneeling. Work requires physical effort such as frequently lifting and moving objects over 50 lbs, hooking up equipment and attachments to vehicles, loading and unloading vehicles, etc. During the course of normal duties, incumbent will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding, work below ground level, remain in strained or cramped positions for extended periods of time, and work on slopes or stairs.

Working Conditions: Incumbent works in the field to complete a wide range of duties and projects to include, but not limited to, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, masonry, custodial, landscaping and both large and small equipment operation and maintenance. Incumbent performs journeyman level water treatment and operates a water plant to serve all structures south of Seacamp. This requires a Georgia, Class IV Small water system operator's license.

Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
