This position is being filled using the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) local hiring authority (16 USC 3198).
Any U.S. Citizen who has acquired special knowledge or expertise regarding the natural or cultural resources of Denali National Park and Preserve, by reason of having either lived or worked in or near the unit may apply. See Qualifications section for eligibility requirements.
If selected, you will work as a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-05, at Denali National Park and Preserve. Selectee works for the Facilities Operations Supervisor and/or under the direction of Work Leaders or other higher graded employees and may be assigned a variety of Facilities Operations duties. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Cleans and services visitor facilities including visitor centers, rest stops, and trailheads.
Cleans and services administrative facilities for park employees, residents, and volunteers.
Collects trash from around the park and hauls it to a central processing facility.
Collects recycling from around the park and assists in the sorting and handling of the park's recyclable waste.
Performs simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades.
Makes minor repairs as needed and refers problems to higher-graded workers, reporting any discrepancies or damage to others responsible for such items.
Assists higher-graded maintenance workers in the performance of their work.
Performs minor cosmetic repairs according to specific instructions on objects such as picnic tables, trash barrels, or buildings.
Receives, unloads, and processes incoming shipments according to established procedures.
Reports any discrepancies/damages to others responsible for such items.
Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and transport materials to and from work sites and while performing rest stop work or assisting on project work.
Operates a forklift to load/unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging. Training may be provided.
Duties will also include timely documentation of daily work accomplishments using a computerized timekeeping program.

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

NOTE: In support of Executive Order (EO) 14189 "Celebrating America's 250th Birthday" and EO 14314 "Making America Beautiful Again by Improving our National Parks," the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has approved an exception to the 1039-hour time limitation for this position. This approval may extend the time limitation up to 1560 hours for this temporary seasonal appointment.
A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selectee.

Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
