WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As an statistician, you will use your knowledge of and experience with Human Resources and Services Administration to optimize business results and customer experience by:

Providing expert statistical analysis and advice to support public health programs, including designing and applying advanced statistical methods to evaluate population-based health outcomes and inform agency decision-making.

Leading development and implementation of agency-wide data governance, data strategy, and standards to ensure data quality, integrity, interoperability, and consistent use across programs and organizational components.

Interpreting and applies Federal laws, regulations, and policies related to data privacy, confidentiality, and governance; ensures statistical activities and reporting comply with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Developing, overseeing, and evaluating statistical tools, analytical products, and performance measures used to assess program effectiveness, support evidence-based decision-making, and inform senior leadership.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Basic Qualifications:

A. Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.


Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:

1. Applying advanced statistical expertise to guide public health initiatives by aligning data analyses with the needs of diverse populations served by agency programs.

2. Leading the development and implementation of data strategies and policies to improve the quality, integrity, and consistency of data collected across multiple programs or organizational components.

3. Interpreting and applying legislative and regulatory requirements to ensure data collection and reporting activities comply with statutory, privacy, and governance standards.

4. Developing and overseeing statistical tools and analytical products used to assess program effectiveness and inform public health decision-making.

If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
