This position is being filled under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in accordance with Section 1109 of FY 2020 NDAA; P.L. 116-92 and Section 9905 of Title 5, U.S.C.

Typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Perform complete electrical or rewiring jobs for segment buildings and structures
  • Install, repair and maintain switch and outer boxes
  • Locate electrical shortages and trouble shoot and make necessary repairs
  • Plan and kayout work from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams or oral or written communication

You may qualify at the WG-5 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 4 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates performing a full range of Electrician tasks at the highest journey level, including assisting with the installation of new electrical circuits, walls plugs, electric hot water heaters and circuits; Planning, laying out work according to rough sketches, blueprints, or verbal instructions; Assisting with the rewiring of facilities; AND skilled in using various tools and test equipment.

You may qualify at the WG-8 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG-07 grade level in the Federal service with a background that demonstrates a full range of Electrician tasks at the highest journey level including the installation of new electrical circuits, walls plugs, electric hot water heaters and circuits; Performing assigned work, laying out work according to rough sketches, blueprints, or verbal instructions; Rewiring of facilities; AND using tools and test equipment.

You may qualify at the WG 10 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 9 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: Perform a full range of Electrician tasks at the highest journey level and making recommendations to others on the planning, laying out, and completing the installation, modification, and repair to electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls; Using trade formulas to calculate voltage, voltage drop, and current capability in series and parallel circuits; AND analyzing electrical equipment to determine repairs needed, work sequence, and materials needed for repair as an expert with a high degree of independence.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
