Summary

This position is in the Office of Military Commissions (OMC), which was established by the Secretary of Defense in 2002 to conduct trials of enemy combatants who violate the laws of war. This office consists of the Director of OMC, The Convening Authority, the Legal Advisor to the Convening Authority and such other subordinate offices and organizational elements as are within the resources of the Secretary of Defense.

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Interpreting laws, regulations, and guidance on pre/post-trial court cases.
  • Understanding court reporting automation systems such as stenotype machines, voice dictation machines, computers, and software.
  • Managing and overseeing the legal administrative functions related to court reporting and production of verbatim record of trial.
  • Serves as the Senior Court Reporter, Office of Court Administration (OCA) for OMC.

  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance Top-Secret/SCI.

You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability in: (1) Interpreting laws, regulations, and guidance on pre/post-trial court cases; (2) Understanding court reporting automation systems such as stenotype machines, voice dictation machines, computers, and software; (3) Managing and overseeing the legal administrative functions related to court reporting and production of verbatim record of trial; (4)Serves as the Senior Court Reporter, Office of Court Administration (OCA) for OMC; (5) Manage and overseeing the legal administrative functions related to court reporting and production of verbatim record of trial.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
