Duties

Help

  • Operates electrical and hydraulic equipment to regulate the positions of the seventeen slide gates that comprise the control structures of Tahoe Dam.
  • Operates the emergency stand-by generator to provide electrical power to the dam during utility system outages or monthly as required by the maintenance schedule for the stand-by generator.
  • Maintains accurate and legible records of the daily operations of the dam and enters the information in the logbook in the format prescribed by the Standard Operating Procedures for Tahoe Dam.
  • Reads, records, and transmits lake elevation data, downstream river flow rates and stage data, and precipitation and temperature data.
  • Performs daily inspections of the entire dam structure including the gates and operating machinery, the upstream and downstream concrete aprons, the adjacent dam embankments, and the upstream and downstream riverbanks and channels.
  • Inspects for cracking, erosion, worn or damaged components, water seepage or boils, vegetation, obstructions, vandalism, and burrowing animals.
  • Performs a variety of normal maintenance and preventive maintenance activities including mechanical maintenance, carpentry, painting, debris and snow removal, and general site clean-up and maintenance.

  • You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.
  • You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.
  • Incumbent is required to perform temporary duty travel (TDY) approximately 10% of the time.
  • The Dam Operator is considered an "essential employee," meaning he/she is required to work most holidays, report for duty during adverse weather conditions, and be expected to work for long hours exceeding normally scheduled shifts in case of emergencies.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain Dam Operator certification and CPR and First Aid certificate. Failure to meet certification requirements could result in adverse consequences.
  • Incumbent is required to work a rotating weekend and holiday schedule.
