Summary

This position is located in Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD), Facilities Services Operations & Services Division (FOSD). The Pentagon Building Management Office is responsible for day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Pentagon, which has a gross floor area of 6,546,360 square feet and which houses approximately 25,000 Federal employees assigned to 14 agencies of the Department of Defense.

This position is being filled under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in accordance with Section 1109 of FY 2020 NDAA; P.L. 116-92 and Section 9905 of Title 5, U.S.C.

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Perform a wide variety of carpentry duties to include framing and Sheet-rock repair, painting, caulking, and glazing where accuracy, close fit, and structural soundness.
  • Tie steel in forms as required.
  • Mix and pour concrete in forms or uses ready-mixed concrete on large jobs.
  • Perform maintenance and repair work on such types of roofs asphalt, slag, terra cotta, asbestos, shingle, gravel, tin, copper, galvanized iron, and corrugated steel.
  • Use such tools as tapes, rules, squares, hammers, hand and power saws, planes, screwdrivers and power plane,

You may qualify at the WG 5 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 4 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability that in assisting with the installation of new electrical circuits, walls plugs, electric hot water heaters and circuits; planning, laying out work according to rough sketches, blueprints, or verbal instructions; assisting with the rewiring of facilities; and using tools and test equipment. I work under general supervision of a work leader or journey-level Electrician who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly performed.

You may qualify at the WG 8 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 5 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability: background must demonstrate a full range of Maintenance Mechanic tasks, at the highest journey level, including operating, repairing, and maintaining buildings and building support systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical and structural systems; interpreting mechanical, electrical and structural drawings and blueprints; applying techniques for masonry, carpentry, painting, glazing and roofing.

You may qualify at the WG 10 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 8 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that your background must demonstrate experience performing the most difficult and complex Maintenance Mechanic tasks, as a journeyman, which includes operating, repairing and maintaining buildings and building support systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, and structural systems; interpreting mechanical, electrical and structural drawings and blueprints; applying techniques for masonry, carpentry, painting, welding, roofing and door systems repair; troubleshooting to determine the extent of the repairs; and rebuilding component parts of industrial equipment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
