Duties

Help

  • Assist the park's Revenue & Fee Program Manager oversee a large and complex wilderness permits fee collection operation on a day-to-day basis. Oversees the collection and security measures for several hundred thousand dollars in park revenue annually. Ensures that proper collection, remitting and security measures are relevant, up-to-date, and adhered to.
  • Directly supervises 16 seasonal positions. Develops performance plans and evaluates employee performance and initiates performance-based awards and disciplinary actions as appropriate. Recruits, interviews, and selects candidates for any vacant position.
  • Ensures that all subordinates are oriented with the NPS mission, Fee Branch goals, park resources, facilities and regulations in order to provide information to visitors. Ensures that visitor service and safety are the top priorities of the fee collection operation. Develops a pro-active and informative approach to visitor services and actively monitors services to make improvements.
  • Serves as technical subject matter expert on RM-22a guidelines and park management goals and objectives regarding wilderness permits operations and fee collection. Provide guidance to all wilderness permit stations and resolve complex fee collection issues including Recreation.gov.
Physical Demands: This position may require standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency duties.

Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work may be frequently performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/03/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate (1) the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, (2) starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and (3) the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
At least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-07 "technical" work alone is not qualifying for this series. You must provide hours per week and from/to dates on your resume

.Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include:


supervising a staff of subordinates and supervisors related to a fee collection operation, overseeing a fee collection operation, handling, tracking, and depositing money, selling entrance passes, issuing fee waivers for special use groups, programming or operating fee collection equipment such as cash registers, bill counters, credit card machines, and traffic counters, performing general administrative functions and providing customer service.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or successful completion of at least two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a directly related field such as business administration, finance, accounting, or other closely related subjects OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work. You must provide a copy of your transcripts that demonstrate graduate level coursework at the time of application. See Education section for more information.

COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants. To combine education and experience, first take percentage of required graduate education. Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must provide a copy of your transcripts that demonstrate graduate level coursework at the time of application. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.



There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
