Help

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Compliance testing and monitoring of the 4 public water systems, 4 nonpublic water systems, 2 non-potable water systems, 2 wastewater systems and several septic systems.
  • Daily supervision of a crew of up to 6 Utility System Repair Operators. Asset management and condition assessments.
  • Assist with the planning of projects for improvements of utilities systems and planning short- and long-term budget needs.
  • Emergency repairs to critical utility systems.
  • Contracting Officer Representative duties for contracted projects.

  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to about 3 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the following California licenses and/or certifications as a condition of employment: D-2 Water Distribution, T-2 Water Treatment, WW-3 Wastewater Treatment, Class C Commercial Driver's License, Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester, and COR Level II Certification. (License and Certification may change if new federal/state requirements are established.)

A Recruitment Incentive May Be Authorized for a newly selected employee when appointed to a permanent, temporary, or term position. A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.

Physical Demands: Regularly lifts, carries and handles items weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses mechanical equipment to handle heavy items (over 50 pounds). Works in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. There is frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching and stooping. Extreme effort is occasionally required in the operation of large hand tools. Drives government vehicle on steep, narrow and winding mountain roads in all weather and road conditions.

Working Conditions: Works with hazardous substances, including acids, caustics, chlorine and flammables such as propane, solvents, gasoline and fuel oil, and digester gas and disease-causing organisms found in water and wastewater. Is exposed to moving machinery, electrical hazards, oxygen-deficient atmospheres, confined spaces, dust, fumes and slippery environments. Must practice personal hygiene to avoid disease and be proficient in the use of many types of safety equipment to avoid injury or death. Employs "buddy system" techniques when working in hazardous conditions. May be exposed to the possibility of bumps, scrapes and infection. May be required to work in adverse weather conditions in temperatures from zero to 120 degrees F. at elevations from 0 to 11,000 feet.
