Summary

This position is part of the WAPA-UGP-Upper Great Plains. As a Program Manager - Transmission Line Manager, you will serve as the Supervisor overseeing the Transmission Line Organization for the South Dakota Maintenance office. This position oversees both Engineers and Linemen.

**This is not a remote position. The selectee will be required to be physically present at the Huron, SD duty location.**

Duties

Help

As a Program Manager - Transmission Lines Manager you will perform the following duties:

  • Develop, manage, operate, and maintain, approximately 4,500 circuit miles of 115-kV to 345-kV, Upper Great Plains Region, South Dakota Maintenance Office (SDMO) high voltage transmission lines, storage yards, facilities, and operations records, in accordance with Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) policy, standards, directives, and established procedures.
  • Collaborate during both normal and abnormal system conditions and operations to maintain or restore customer service. Transmission Lines advises Construction Engineering during major power system facilities construction, about the practicability of safety, operations, and maintenance design changes; represents SDMO in the inspection of newly constructed transmission lines and other major electrical and field headquarters facilities.
  • Initiate required revisions of SDMO operation and maintenance facility drawings; and designs and implements modifications to existing power system facilities as called for by system additions or malfunctions.
  • Prepare all transmission line right-of-way crossing permits and controls unauthorized encroachments; maintains, inspects, and certifies the safety and regulatory compliance of heavy equipment; trains WAPA and foreign switchmen about safety; operates and maintains transmission lines and facilities; inspects lines and structures, moves structure locations, and directs construction of line and substation additions.
  • Transmission Lines maintains transmission line easements and rights-of-way; assists with substation maintenance; maintains line maintenance, welding, and cutting operations, minor modifications, painting, lubrication, and general vehicle equipment.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level [GS-12 or Foreman II] in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

  • Experience in Maintenance, Construction or Design of High Voltage transmission lines; -OR-
  • Experience leading a group of employees engaged in the troubleshooting, maintenance or construction of high voltage transmission lines.
