Duties

Help

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will:

  • Perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of all buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities on the site. Makes inspections to determine maintenance needs.
  • Carpentry work include repairing building structures; minor remodeling, maintenance and replacement of windows and doors including adjustment of hinges, locking mechanisms, and lubrication of doors and hardware; repairing, installing, and adjusting various types of fencing including fence fabric, security wires, top rails, and truss supports.
  • Plumbing work include repairing component elements of sewer, waste, water, and hot water systems in buildings.
  • Painting work include painting building structures, e.g., doors, window sashes, walls, etc. and a variety of surfaces such as wood, metal, and concrete, using standard methods; ensuring surfaces are properly prepared before applying paint, and using the appropriate materials and following specific directions for each.
  • Cement finishing and masonry work include repairing concrete surfaces by patching, dry packing, curing, and finishing as required for acceptable appearances, performing work incidental to the installation of concrete.
  • Electrical work include maintenance and minor repairs on fire, smoke, and security alarm systems. Install fixtures, controls, outlets, relays and switches and tests circuits to see if they are complete after making repairs and installations.
  • Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) work to include routine inspections and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems, replaces filters, greasing, and lubricating.

  • This position requires the ability to operate a government vehicle. The incumbent must be at least 18 years of age, able to obtain and maintain Defensive Drivers certification and have a valid state driver's license. Defensive Driver's Training will be completed upon employment.
  • The incumbent must possess upon entry into the position and continue to maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to operate vehicles of more than 26,000 pounds GVWR upon entry into the position. The license must NOT have the following restriction codes: L, Z, E, O.
  • The employee works a standard workday and a standard workweek, but Facility priorities may require extended periods of overtime, including working weekends, holidays, and overnight travel away from headquarters.
  • The incumbent is subject to the random drug and alcohol testing program established by the Department of Energy.
  • The position requires a pre-appointment and annual physical exam at Federal expense.
