The Major Duties of the Exhibit Specialist include, but are not limited to the following:
Assists in the management of Architectural/ Engineering design contracts; review and prepare design submittal comments, attend design review meetings, review payment applications, and participate in construction site investigations and meetings.
Assists in the management of Construction Contracts
Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) or a Construction Management Representative (CMR) on government design and construction contracts
Identify and evaluate historic structures and recommend level of treatment effort as part of a project team
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
You will be required to complete a one-year trial period.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 14 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

Qualifications

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes work in the appropriate field, e.g., design, modelmaking, art, taxidermy, or restoration.

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all of the following activities:
Managing simple preservation projects using basic project management, design management, construction management and historic preservation skills and knowledge;
Assisting with recommendation of appropriate preservation treatment alternatives based on knowledge of procedures, goals, policies, laws, regulations and related Federal Government regulations.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one (1) full year of Graduate Education, with a major that is related to the duties of this position. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include transcripts.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week.

Physical Demands: Work requires regular surveillance of construction operations in the field. Assignments may require observation of work in cramped, close quarters, underneath structures or on rooftops several hundred feet above ground level.
Working Conditions: Deteriorated historic structures may contain hidden hazards and unknown structural deficiencies. The worker may be exposed to hazardous conditions (e.g. lead paint, asbestos, animal droppings) during site investigations and while performing construction management duties.
Work involves exposure to the outdoors, moderate risks or discomforts such as high noise levels, dust and fumes, high and low temperatures and humidity, and adverse weather conditions. The incumbent is required to utilize ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other structural framework, enter into excavated areas and trenches in the performance of work.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of nine years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
