Area Information: Page, Arizona is located on the Arizona-Utah border, 135 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Page looks out on beautiful Lake Powell which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Page is centrally located to many other National Parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches and Canyonlands to name a few. Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12 and college courses available through local Coconino Community College. The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100+ in summer to mid-teens in winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year. Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Identify, sort and classify museum objects and enter them into a National Park Service catalog program.
Prepare, maintain, and organize museum records in accordance with National Park Service standards.
Handle, clean, store and label objects in the permanent collection of multiple park units.
Implement museum monitoring protocols to maintain museum objects appropriately.
Provide routine cleaning and monitoring of artifacts in accordance with standard operating procedures, including public areas, exhibition spaces and artifact storage area.
Conduct inventories of museum collections and accessions.
Assist with annual museum reporting.
Maintain collection records and loan agreements.
Prepare information for museum records research requests.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 3 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Museum Technician. Specialized experience is experience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes activities such as unpacking, processing, and repacking museum objects; identifying, labeling, and preparing objects for storage or display; cataloging objects into a museum database; preparing, maintaining, and organizing curatorial records; performing routine cleaning of museum objects per established standards; assisting with installation, repair, and rehabilitation of exhibits. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year of graduate level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or equivalent) with coursework related to the duties of the position. Related fields of study include art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled.

COMBINATION EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of graduate level semester hours (or equivalent) earned towards your graduate degree and divide by 18 semester hours (or equivalent). Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. For example, 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the specialized experience listed above) and one-half year of graduate level education in coursework related to the field (9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours equaling 50% of the education listed above) would qualify an applicant for this position. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

Physical Demands: The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., boxes up to 50 pounds) must be lifted or moved frequently.
Working Conditions: Most of the work is performed in a museum environment of exhibit and storage areas, workroom/laboratory, and offices. Occasional work with materials which are dusty or stored with protective chemicals may require the use of dust masks, gloves, or other protective devices.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
