As a Congressional Liaison and Legislative Specialist within the Office of Communication and Publishing, some of your specific duties will include:
Establishes and maintains contacts with Members of Congress, congressional staffs, committee staffs, DOI offices, and offices of the bureau to develop and furnish assistance, data, and information to the Congress on bureau activities and consults on potential problems and complaints arising through congressional sources involving bureau programs.
Identifies and analyzes potential policy issues, legislation, laws, and problems, for impacts on the bureau and keeps appropriate officials informed and prepares briefings on the findings often designing approaches and courses of action that will contribute to the achievement of program objectives.
Recommends, plans, and executes briefings and courtesy visits to Member offices for the bureau, subject matter experts and management to provide updates and information on science projects and topics of interest to their state or district.
Assists in preparing bureau responses to departmental data calls and requests for Office of the Secretary briefing materials for hearings, events, and meetings.
Coordinates and attends bureaus program findings, events and exhibits for congressional staff and committees and external constituencies, as well as for the USGS Director and the Department of the Interior.

Qualifications
UNDERGRADUATEEDUCATION A year of undergraduate education is 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours or the equivalent of college study. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent was a prerequisite.
