Duties

Help

Does the full range of cleaning duties in an assigned area following general instructions on the work to be done. Scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy (industrial type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Washes walls using powered wall washing machine and/or by hand. Vacuums/cleans rugs using heavy vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans and oils these machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them. Washes and replaces blinds and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment. Replaces and/or installs paper goods, etc, in restrooms. Uses various preparations to clean and maintain linoleum, wood, marble, and various kinds of floor, wall and ceiling surfaces. Removes stains from a variety of surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions. Occasionally works on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, wash walls, etc. Runs powered cleaning equipment; cleans and oils it, and changes brushes and accessories. As required, keeps shop areas clean and in order. Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes oil, hydraulic fluid, grease, and other spilled liquids. Moves heavy boxes, crates, parts, or other obstacles in order to clean up the area and picks up scraps of wood, metal and other materials. Removes scrap and trash cans from area to central pickup point. Wipes benches, machinery etc. as directed. Performs general trash collection/removal from areas such as offices, restrooms, public areas, etc. On a regular and recurring basis operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc…) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park.
Perry's Monument Rotunda, Otis Elevator car interior, upper & lower elevator landings and other historic attributes are to be maintained to the highest quality appearance, floors polished, bronze hand rails cleaned daily and all interior/exterior lights are maintained operational, bronze plaques are dust free. Any mishaps or spills are cleaned up immediately. Monument public restrooms are kept clean, sanitary and well stocked. Visitor Center is maintained to the highest quality appearance as possible, carpet floors are vacuumed daily, hardwood floors polished, all interior exhibit lights are maintained operational, display cases and exhibits are dust free. Any mishaps or spills are cleaned up immediately. The VC public restrooms are clean, sanitary and well stocked. Other Park Facilities i.e. offices, maintenance facilities are monitored and cleaned daily. VIP quarters are kept neat in appearance and cleaned between guests. Quarter's inventory/inspection forms are updated between occupants.
Occasionally provides general labor assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc.

AREA INFORMATION: Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI) is a 25-acre site located at Put-in-Bay, Ohio on South Bass Island in western Lake Erie. The only commercial access to South Bass Island is by ferry or plane from April to November. Annually, approximately 150,000 visitors have the opportunity to take the elevator to the top of the 352-foot Monument. On the park grounds there is visitor center, ranger station, administrative office, maintenance facility, and nine park housing units. Services in Put-In-Bay include a bank, churches, EMS services, grocery store, gas station, K-12 school, library, police, restaurants, and shops. Other services are located on the mainland in Port Clinton and nearby Sandusky. Park housing may be available.

Additional Information: If you choose to live on the mainland your commute and employment time may exceed 11 hours/day plus driving time to your residence. Ferry Passes on the Miller Boat Line will be approximate $480/year.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April to November, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 7

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS).

If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility.

The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM.

Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations.

Physical Demands: Moderately heavy physical effort is required to move and control equipment by pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping. This position consistently moves and lifts object weighing 10- 50 pounds, and occasionally lifts and moves objects weighing more than 50 pounds. The work requires considerable standing, walking, bending, stretching and working in awkward positions.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily outside in temperatures ranging from Oto 100 degrees Fahrenheit and subject to inclement weather conditions. The work environment includes exposure to intermittent noise, dust and dirt, grease and oils, and the use of chemical solvents. Indoor work is usually performed in controlled climates. Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of this job and do not meet criteria for compensation by environmental or hazard pay.
