Summary

This position is part of the WAPA Headquarters. As a Engineering Technician, you will perform a variety of duties related to the functional responsibilities in supporting activities in computer aided engineering/computer aided drafting (CAE/CAD), design automation, and software support.

**This is not a remote position. The selectee will be required to be physically present at the Lakewood, CO duty location.*

Duties

Help

As a Civil Engineering Technician you will:

  • Prepare preliminary and final civil/electrical design drawings for substations. This includes scaled layout drawings showing bus and equipment configurations and foundations, plan and elevation views as well as wiring diagrams using AutoCAD software.
  • Prepare material quantity estimates for substations. Calculate cut and fill quantities, foundation design, providing material quantities for both concrete and steel for construction specifications, and determining steel structures for substations using Civil 3D and other applicable software.
  • Provide technical advice and consultation in the application of CAE/CAD system to engineering design functions. Work closely with individual engineers and technicians in order to take full advantage of the opportunities available with the CAE system for their applications.
  • Serve as the authoritative source of technical information on CAE/CAD operational and maintenance procedures at Headquarters and Regions.
  • Develop and update standards and procedures for CAE/CAD users as well as standard specifications for the related materials, equipment, and software.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level [GS-11] in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following items:

  • Experience using technical drawing concepts in the preparation of design drawings for construction and maintenance projects which include, building an AutoCAD model.
  • Provides technical advice, consultation and is the subject matter expert in the application of a computer aided engineering (CAE) system to engineering design functions.
  • Preparation of construction specifications, drawing packages, and standards.
  • The ability to complete drafting markups/revisions based on comments from a review or inconsistencies between engineering disciplines, as well as complete the material quantity estimates, structure/foundation/equipment selection from standard library or previous project for review by engineer.
