Summary

This position is part of the Deputy Administrator for Naval Reactors, Department of Energy.

The Deputy Administrator for NR is also the Director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and the Deputy Commander, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Directorate, Naval Sea Systems Command. Responsibilities for this Program area are contained in Executive Order 12344 of 1 February 1982, which is codified in 42 U.S.C. §7158 and 50 U.S.C. §§ 2401 and 2406.

Duties

Help

As a Nuclear Engineer (Senior Naval Reactor Representative -ANSTR), you will:

  • Be responsible to the Director, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP), for the overall planning, direction, coordination, and implementation of joint Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Navy (DON) technical programs at the Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. sites in Monroeville, PA and Schenectady, NY.
  • Advise the Director, other Field Representatives, and top Naval Reactors/NAVSEA management on problems affecting naval nuclear propulsion plants and makes recommendations on aspects which affect design, construction, repair, refueling, scheduling, cost, and operation of the plants.
  • Plan and direct the efforts of an engineering and administrative staff which evaluates prime contractor performance in conducting DOE and DON technical programs, and initiates actions appropriate to this performance evaluation.
  • Provide support to active fleet and shipyards for operations, maintenance, and upgrades and oversee prime contractor efforts to monitor and track fleet completion of nuclear alterations.
  • Provide shipyard and government inspection activities with equipment inspection requirements and responses to requests for technical assistance.
  • Review prime contractor manning levels, personnel ceilings, and personnel utilization to ensure effective management of personnel resources.
  • Evaluate prime contractor performance in complying with government regulations involving security, radiological controls, and other administrative functions, and initiates actions appropriate.
  • Manage the NNPP relationship with Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA).
  • Supervise the staff of the immediate office and exercise direct technical and administrative oversight of the prime contractor, which employs more thant 1,000 personnel.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience at the EN-5 level.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGINEER: ·

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Engineering OR
  • Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate professional field, provided you have had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. OR
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum. OR
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico allows eligibility only if your registration is within or closely related to nuclear engineering.
