This position is part of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As a Tribal Liaison, you will ensure the Office of the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE's) mission, goals, programs, and projects are shared with Tribes in addition to a wide variety of EERE's contacts, including industry, associations, state and local government officials, universities, and many more.

Duties

Help

As a Tribal Liaison , you will:

  • Build and maintain a strong relationships with Tribal governments, representatives, and communities to support the development of consistent approaches and accessibility to Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy activities, projects, and programs.
  • Represent and serve as the point of contact in meetings with tribal representatives and community members; and as a primary expert liaison on Tribal Consultation and advise Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy leadership and staff when engaging in Tribal Consultation.
  • Regularly conduct outreach and engagements to tribal governments; develop tribal engagement strategies; and work with project managers on executing goals and maximizing engagements to advance demonstration projects and stay ahead of risks.
  • Facilitate requests for information, draft correspondence, and represent Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at Department of Energy-wide meetings and working groups; develop annual goals, roadmaps, and produce annual reports; support program office tribal outreach, including developing resources for internal and external audiences.
  • Participate in the External Relations team's project and process management, assess gaps and overlaps, ensure an appropriate level of engagement across groups, and determine means to monitor and measure results.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:

  • Conducting Tribal consultations, coordinating Tribal outreach, meeting with Tribal leaders, and/or organizing Tribal summits or events; AND
  • As the point of contact for outreach activities to diverse groups, such as tribal governments, and ensuring feedback is shared; AND
  • Developing and executing strategy for tribal engagement.

"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
