Help

As a Supervisory Landscape Architect GS-0807-13 with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Directs a diverse program of cultural landscape preservation activities serving parks within the Northeast Region.
  • Responsible for the identification, research, planning, treatment, and preservation maintenance of cultural landscapes.
  • Develops and implements national and regional cultural landscape management education and training programs in collaboration with the National Park Service Preservation Training Collaborative, Historic Preservation and Training Center (HPTC), Park Facility Management Division (PFMD), and National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT).
  • Utilizes automatic methods of data collection, analysis, or illustration. Uses GIS to help parks plan project work and manage maintenance efforts.
  • Develops and manages budgets, financial plans, and program schedules to insure adequate funding for horticulture, preservation maintenance, and education programs.
  • Directs a team of landscape architects, arborists, and training specialists involved in a wide array of cultural landscape management and education projects to promote sound resource management practice.
  • Ensures that projects are appropriately planned, coordinated, executed, and reviewed and follow applicable agency requirements, laws, regulations, policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Assists historical landscape architects, horticulturists, and facility management staff in parks, centers, and regional offices with professional and programmatic advice and support.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must possess a bachelor's or higher degree in landscape architecture or landscape design.

OR
Combination of education and experience. For each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design.


In addition to meeting the basic education requirements, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the to the GS-12 level (obtained in either the public or private sectors) applying landscape architect theories, principles and concepts for designing recreation spaces and preserving natural and cultural landscapes projects which includes: Identifying landscape maintenance needs, conducting condition assessments, accomplishing emergency and cyclic preservation field work to improve the condition of cultural landscapes; evaluating projects schedules and budget requirements; identifying and resolving complex technical problems and coordinating their solution; applying management and supervisory skills in evaluating workload and utilizing staff resources to develop performance standards; determining project objectives, goals, timetables, schedules, milestones, cost estimates, and staffing needs for cultural landscape projects.
