Serve as a staff curator for Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and the Chilkoot National Historic Trail in Skagway, Alaska.
Apply knowledge of applicable federal laws, policies, and definitions to determine appropriate management actions for NPS museum collections, including their care and disposition.
Conduct collections research and evaluate collections against park Scope of Collection Statements, and provide recommendations for additions to or deaccessions from the collection to park Collection Advisory Committees.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field. -OR-
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. -OR-
Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown in A above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: performing duties in the Museum Collections and Records Management Field. This experience includes but is not limited to a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include handling of artifacts and collection management; researching and cataloging museum collections; leading collections-related projects and working collaboratively to accomplish project goals; preparing museum registration documentation related to accessioning and deaccessioning actions; and participation in committees established to review museum acquisitions and deaccessions. You must indicate the number of hours worked per week on your resume. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Note: You must provide a copy of your transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take your number of semester hours in excess of 36 semester hours by 18 or the number your school uses to represent one year of full time graduate academic study. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Note: You must provide a copy of your transcripts with your application package if qualifying based on education to support your claim. When describing the nature of your duties (e.g., your paid or unpaid work or volunteer experience), please be extremely clear, thorough, and specific. We will not make assumptions regarding your experience. You must include hours per week worked and a copy of transcripts.

Physical Demands: The work requires mental alertness, better than average manual dexterity, and mobility. Although primarily sedentary, inspections and operations evaluations involve activities demanding a certain amount of exertion such as walking, climbing, crawling, lifting of heavy objects, bending, stooping, and reaching. Working with collections can involve prolonged exposure to hazardous materials and equipment. Working with lighting systems, environmental control systems, and alarm systems can involve exposure to electrical current and the use of power tools with physical hazards. The work entails the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
Working Conditions: Most of the work is performed in an office and storage or laboratory facility. Frequent visits are made to the library, visitor center, and other museums in the park. The incumbent makes occasional field trips to the backcountry. Some travel to other facilities and museums, as well as to training and professional meetings is required.
