Summary

As a Program Manager (Protection and Communication Maintenance), you will be responsible for supervising two subordinate supervisors and for formulating, executing, planning, maintenance, replacement, and rehabilitation of protection, automation, and communication facilities.

**This is not a remote position. The selectee will be required to be physically present at the duty location identified. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses are authorized.**

Help

Incumbent serves as the Manager of the Protection and Communications Engineering and Maintenance division for the Desert Southwest Region (DSW) of Western Area Power Administration (WAPA). The manager is responsible for supervising two subordinate supervisors and for formulating, executing, planning, and coordinating the engineering, maintenance, replacement, and rehabilitation of protection, automation, and communication facilities as well as the administration of those functions in associated power contracts.

  • Travel of up to 10% annually is required; with overnight travel of 5 days per month on average.

  • This position requires the ability to operate a government vehicle. The incumbent must be at least 18 years of age, able to obtain and maintain Defensive Drivers certification and have a valid state driver's license. Defensive Driver's Training will be completed upon employment.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance requirements of an electric power transmission system sufficient to lead the implementation of maintenance, replacement, and rehabilitation programs; and
  • Experience leading a multi-faceted team with varying goals, customers, and stakeholders; and
  • Knowledge of reliability standards from FERC or NERC's reliability entities such as WECC.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience with protection, automation, or communication equipment of the electric utility industry.
