Duties

***This position is approved to work remotely full time under a pilot program, but the employee will be expected to reside within 125 miles from the DOE worksite (Portland, OR).***

As a Human Resources Assistant (Information Systems), you will:

  • Respond to employee's calls and emails.
  • Answer wide range of HR related questions.
  • Refer to standard operating procedures, the HR Help guide and other desk references when answering employee's questions.
  • Escalate complex or non-routine questions to the subject matter expert (SME) or Team lead.
  • Use workgroup systems, tools, and processes to log calls or emails, assign requests to appropriate HR work group, and to close out tickets handled by HR Help.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding federal employment and vacancy announcements.
  • Support processing of federal personnel actions by initiating award actions, pay step increase, change in tenure etc. in HRMIS.
  • Assist with New Employee Orientation.
  • Support processing of contractor personnel actions (additions, reassignments, etc.) in HRMIS.
  • Assist Benefits Specialist in processing benefit actions.
  • Assist with maintaining employee's electronic Official Personnel Folders. Scan, upload, index, and verify documents in the eOPF. Assist with requests for access to eOPF.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience in utilizing HR rules, procedures and operations to (1) communicate HR related information about personnel matters to both external and internal customers; (2) using an automated database to generate personnel reports; (3) perform a wide variety of support work to review, distribute and answer varying HR related inquiries both over the phone and through email (i.e. processing, benefits and record keeping); and (4) reviewing, updating and entering personnel data and actions into an HR automation system.

"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
