This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee is guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year. While in pay status, work schedule is full-time. The typical season for this position is 20 pay periods from March - November. Non-pay is approximately: December - February but may be shortened if additional work/funding exists during this timeframe to have the employee work the max of 25 pay periods.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Provides overall professional and technical direction for the museum collection program.
Ensures development and implementation of all required museum collection programs and plans.
Negotiates cooperative and interagency agreements and serves as Contracting Officer's Representative.
Assists in the general visitor services program of the park.
Plans and executes on-site permanent and temporary exhibits.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 3 weeks per year for training purposes. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MUSEUM CURATOR GS-1015 SERIES:
Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field. You must provide transcripts. -OR-
A combination of education and experience, which includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must provide transcripts.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level (Note: Clerk, Assistant or Technician work in a single grade occupational series at the GS-05 level does NOT qualify for this position, however GS-06 level may) in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience MUST include: (1) Researching content documentation for exhibits; (2) Developing content for exhibits; (3) Supporting the execution of on-site or traveling exhibits. EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level (Note: Clerk, Assistant or Technician work in a single grade occupational series at the GS-07 level does NOT qualify for this position, however GS-08 level may and work in a two grade occupational series at the GS-07 level may) in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Physical Demands: The work requires mental alertness, better than average manual dexterity, and mobility. Although primarily sedentary, inspections and operations evaluations involve activities demanding a certain amount of exertion such as walking, climbing, crawling, lifting of heavy objects, bending, stooping, and reaching. Working with collections can involve prolonged exposure to hazardous materials and equipment. Working with lighting systems, environmental control systems, and alarm systems can involve exposure to electrical current and the use of power tools with physical hazards. The work entails the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
Working Conditions: Most of the work is performed in an office and storage or laboratory facility. Frequent visits are made to the library, visitor center, and other museums in the park. The incumbent makes occasional field trips to the backcountry. Some travel to other facilities and museums, as well as to training and professional meetings is required.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
