Duties

Help

As a Legislative Affairs Specialist, you will:

  • Serve as liaison with Members of Congress, Congressional committees, and staff on a multitude of issues and concerns of the organization.
  • Communicate, advocate, and negotiates with congressional stakeholders on administration and organization vies and programs which are often highly sensitive and controversial.
  • Coordinate with organizational staff and managers in gathering information, establishing facts, evaluating data, and analyzing legislative initiatives.
  • Attend meetings with high level Departmental officials on program activities and congressional concerns on program request.
  • Prepare briefings on congressional issues scheduled for hearings.
  • Prepares clear, concise, and timely hearing reports that provide detailed information for review by senior officials.

Qualifications

At the GS-13 level SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

  • Serving as a liaison and/or working with Members of Congress, their staffs, or Congressional Committee staff that have jurisdiction over the energy industry legislative policies/programs and the agencies Program Offices;
  • Responding to congressional inquiries and coordinating programmatic responses related to energy policy or the application of new energy technologies to congressional requests; and
  • Preparing briefing materials on complex energy technology issues.

  • Serve as a liaison and/or working with Members of Congress, their staffs, or Congressional Committee staff that have jurisdiction over the energy industry legislative policies/programs and the agencies Program Offices;
  • Lead response to congressional inquiries and coordinating programmatic responses related to energy policy or the application of new energy technologies to congressional requests;
  • Prepare briefing materials on complex energy technology issues; and
  • Develop legislative strategies and conducting negotiations to assure compliance with the programmatic positions.
