Positions are located at the Pentagon in the Pentagon Police Division, Mark Center in the National Capital Region Division, and Raven Rock Mountain Complex-Site R, which is part of the Pentagon Reservation and falls under the responsibility of PFPA.


Your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Enforce local, state, and Federal laws and regulations, and enforce DoD policies and regulations relating to law enforcement.
  • Physically protect the Pentagon (buildings and grounds), employees, visitors, and staff from threats of crime and disruption; preserves law and order; and serves as a deterrent to crime and other violations of law, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform protective services, security, and access control to the Pentagon and other building in the National Capital region occupied by PFPA employees, government equipment and property.
  • Make arrests, prepare reports and testify in court
  • Interact with legal counsel and coordinate with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

  • Incumbent is subject to medical screening to determine if any condition impacts his/her movement, agility, flexibility, strength, dexterity, coordination, or the ability to accelerate, decelerate, and change direction efficiently
  • Incumbent is subject to a vision screening to determine whether his/her vision is 20/20 or correctable to 20/20 in both eyes
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete a specialized law enforcement training provided by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST). The POST will test your knowledge of basic math, reading, writing and grammar.

  • This position is identified as a covered position under the PFPA Civilian Mobility Program, Regulation 1400.24, effective September 28, 2015.This position requires that the candidate must sign a mobility agreement as a condition of employment. PFPA may relocate covered positions and covered employees in permanent changes of duty station between PFPA duty locations in the National Capital Region; Raven Rock Mountain Complex (Adams County, Pennsylvania); Glynco, Georgia; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania or Baltimore, Maryland and potentially other locations to improve mission effectiveness or enhance individual career progression
  • As a police officer representing PFPA, it is essential that the employee present a professional and competent image, with a clean, neatly pressed uniform or attire. Safety and effective performance requires a well-groomed and tidy appearance, proper decorum and appropriate responses
  • Retention in this position is contingent upon the successful completion and passing of all agency-training requirements
  • This position is not eligible for telework
  • This position requires the incumbent to take and pass an annual PFPA medical and physical fitness examinations; to carry and qualify with PFPA service issued firearms twice a year; to wear personal protective equipment, i.e., ballistic vest, etc.; and to pass all designated PFPA certification programs
  • Subject to successful background and reference checks
The Police Series, 0083, has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR).


You may qualify at the AD-05 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

A. At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-04 or GS equivalent level that demonstrates knowledge of a body of basic or commonly used laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and operating methods and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force, in the military, in loss prevention, or as a security officer at airports, buildings, and structures.
OR
B. Completion of at least four years of education above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree in police science or a comparable degree program related to police work. Such education must be obtained from an accredited college or university. (Transcripts will be used to verify education)
OR
C. A combination of specialized experience as described in letter A above and post high school education as described in letter B above that totals 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. (Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours can be credited under this response. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience).

You may qualify at the AD-06 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-05 or GS equivalent level that demonstrates knowledge of a body of standardized rules,methods, procedures, and operating techniques that requires considerable training and experience to perform a range of operations in preventing or resolving offenses. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized law enforcement experience in: 1) Enforcing law and order (Federal, State, County or Local), preserving peace, and protecting life and civil rights (and property); and, 2) monitoring or patrolling designated area to preserve law and order; and, 3) responding to emergency or routine calls for service from the general public.

You may qualify at the AD-07 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-06 or GS equivalent level , performing work that demonstrates knowledge of a body of standardized, optional, and innovative investigative procedures, techniques, and methods to detect, investigate, and resolve crimes and other incidents. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience in law enforcement: 1) Preventing, detecting and investigating criminal acts; and, 2) gathering facts or evidence to prepare detailed reports; and, 3) performing access control and search of property to admit individuals into a controlled area.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
