St. Mary boarders the east-side side of Glacier National Park. This remote duty station sits along the eastern front of the Rocky Mountains and provides great recreational opportunities. A Recruitment Incentive May Be Authorized for a newly selected employee when appointed to a permanent, temporary, or term position. A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.
Physical Demands: The work requires frequent and recurring inspections and review of work, which requires lifting, walking, climbing, bending and stooping. Work demands range from sedentary settings to heavy physical situations. Incumbent regularly hikes or rides stock up to 10 Miles per trip. Backcountry camping and packing occur on a limited but recurring basis. Lifts 50 pounds and heavier weights with assistance. .
Working Conditions: Much time is spent working in office settings, indoor work areas and in the backcountry. Some outside work sites are located in high mountain terrain subject to sudden changes in weather. The incumbent is exposed to vibrations, fumes, dust, pack stock and slippery surfaces. This supervisor directs the work of 3 permanent and up to 12 seasonal employees in several occupations which are all related to the safe, effective, and efficient operation, repair, and maintenance of buildings, utilities, grounds, roads, and trails.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
