JOB LEAD DUTIES:

  • Leads a crew of three or more employees or when supervisor determines that the nature/complexity of the job necessitates the need for a job leader
  • Performs regular work that is the same as that done by the crew - Works along with the crew and sets the pace; ensures that plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available - Assigns immediate tasks to individual crew members
  • Answers questions from workers on procedures
  • Ensures the crew has enough work to keep busy
  • Checks on work in progress and when completed
  • Ensures that safety rules are followed
  • Coordinates work with other crafts, operations, and/or engineering
  • Reports to the supervisor on the status and progress of work
  • May hold clearances for other members of the crew as necessary.

PLANT MECHANIC DUTIES:
  • Maintains, repairs, or modifies all mechanical equipment found in hydroelectric power plants and/or pumping plants.
  • Performs mechanical work, machinist work, sheet metal work, finish welding, pipefitting, crane operation and rigging connected with the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of turbines, generators, motors, pumps, compressors, filters, eductors, valves, pipes, penstocks, intakes, radial gates, spillways, and outlet works. Performs finish, structural and pipe welding and finish grinding on turbine runners.
  • Designs and manufactures tools, jigs, and fixtures. Fabricates parts from stock material. Rebuilds equipment to new. Performs tool and diemaker work.
  • Operates tools, equipment and machinery such as lathes, milling machines, boring bar, radial arm drill press, forklift, overhead bridge and gantry cranes, grinders, MIG, TIG, acetylene and arc welders, testing gauges, and machinist and common hand tools.
  • May hold clearances.

Although duty-stationed in the Redding , CA, the incumbent of this position will be required to travel and work between NCAO Facilities as directed by management.

  • You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.
  • Must be able to possess and maintain an Overhead and Gantry Crane Operator Certification.
  • Pre-employment medical examination is required; and an exit medical examination is required. Periodic and regular recurring safety and health medical examinations are required.
  • Position is designated as a Moderate Risk Public Trust position requires a fully completed and favorable adjudication of a Public Trust Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) upon appointment and requires reinvestigation every five years

Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.
