Duties

Help

As a GS-11 Security Specialist, you will:

  • Perform analysis and provides support and assistance in interpreting and implementing policies, procedures, and programs in assigned areas such as classification, declassification, and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) programs.
  • Participate in meetings and ad-hoc committees to identify and resolve security issues within assigned area of specialization.
  • Assist in conducting assessments, vulnerability analysis, and observation of on-site security technology testing and evaluations.
  • Provide support to local security programs that safeguards DOE facilities, sites, buildings, personnel and information.
  • Support consultation teams to assist field managers and contractor staff in identifying potential vulnerabilities in security systems and operations.
  • Research/Analyze policy and regulatory issues and there impact on security programs within the organization.
As a GS-12 Security Specialist, you will:
  • Assist in the performance of research for preparing recommendations to improve the capability of the Safeguards and Security Policy.
  • This requires reviewing requirements and procedures for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information and data, study of personnel assignments and interactions in managing the flow and routing of information; and an assessment of equipment capabilities.
  • Develop accurate security threat assessments of malevolent activity directed against Departmental assets.
  • Assist the field, Headquarters Program Offices, and other Government agencies by assisting in policy interpretation, advice, and guidance on all aspects of Safeguards and Security policy.
  • Analyze policy and regulatory issues and provides advice on their impact on information classification, declassification, and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) programs.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
For the GS-11:
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

  • Participating in developing, reviewing, and implementing national industrial security programs to protect personnel, facilities, critical company assets, information, and operations.
  • Developing guidance for applying security policy, procedures, techniques, equipment, and methods to a variety of work situations or degree of security control.
OR

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or at least 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. if related.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.


For the GS-12: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
  • Developing, reviewing, and implementing national industrial security programs to protect personnel, facilities, critical company assets, information, and operations.
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and implementing security related policies, procedures, methods, requirements, practices, deliverables and/or directives.
  • Experience in assessing security problems including analyzing alternatives, recommending solutions, and providing expert technical advice and security direction and guidance to audiences at all levels.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time-in-Grade: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration.
