Help

Major duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Program development and implementation to preserve and protect physical characteristics, biotic systems, historic, and contemporary use of the landscape.
  • Directs an intricate program of horticultural and landscape management activities, involving sensitive and complex issues that may impact a wide variety of the park's resources and operations.
  • Updating and managing the software programs for all landscaping and sprinkler systems.
  • Supervise grounds department personnel.
  • Train or oversee specialty training of subordinates in proper techniques of grounds management techniques.
  • Procures or oversees the procurement of all materials required to administer a proven management program using approved vendors and established protocols.
  • Develop revitalization/renovation plans for curbside appeal and enhancement, both tactical and strategically.
  • Maintain a commercial pesticide license in core, turf and ornamental and road side vegetation management.
Physical Demands: Employee will at times be required to wear protective equipment such as respirator, hearing protection, clothing and eye protection and must meet physical requirements to do so. Occasionally must lift and handle objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Must be able to reach, stretch, bend, turn and move body, hands, arms, feet and legs to accomplish work.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in and out of doors (70% inside, 30% outside), sometimes in dusty, wet, windy conditions, in extreme temperatures occasionally reaching below zero in the winter and 90+ degree temperatures with high humidity in the summer. The work site can be dusty, contain fumes and other hazardous materials. Employee can be subject to cuts, flying splinters and chips, and injury from power and hand tools.

  • This position requires a Missouri Pesticide Applicators license - Category 3 by the application date. Upload a copy of your license to the application package.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to lift 75 pounds.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
    You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Qualifications

Applicants must be physically fit and, as required in the Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Handbook, must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. A specific length of time and experience is not required. Qualification requirement emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. You must meet the 2 point level on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements listed.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the job-related factors. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factors are not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
