As a Biological Science Technician (Fisheries) your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Uses active and passive collection methods to conduct fish surveys (aquatic habitat and aquatic organism census) including the use of electrofishing equipment, beach seines, trawls, gill nets, hoop nets, fyke nets, and rotary screw traps. This may also require snorkeling for direct observation.
Collects water quality parameters using water quality meters.
Identifies fish (including larval) to species in the field and lab using dichotomous keys. Recover coded-wire tags from specimens collected.
Collects biological samples ensuring correct documentation, reporting, storage, transport and delivery of samples taken.
Uses established automated databases to enter, organize, and perform preliminary analysis of collected data, using standard statistical methods in preparation of reports.

Ability to operate motorboats up to 25' in length. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain Department of Interior Motorboat Operator Certification.
Ability to safely swim and snorkel in cold fast moving water.
Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain Swiftwater Safety Certification.
Work Schedule: Duties may require working evenings, weekends and holidays.

In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification.
Minimum Qualification [GS-05]
One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-04 in the Federal service. Experience may include 1) conducting surveys of fish/aquatic species and their habitat, independently or as a member of a crew; 2) accurately collecting, recording and summarizing data collected during surveys; and 3) interacting collaboratively with colleagues to complete projects requiring speed and accuracy under strenuous or challenging work conditions. NOTE: To qualify under this option, your resume must contain sufficient detail to prove you have one year experience performing these duties; OR
Completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of courses must be directly related to fishery subjects, such as fishery biology, ichthyology, limnology, aquaculture, etc. NOTE: To qualify under this option, you must submit transcripts (official or unofficial) to verify your education; OR
A combination of education (INCLUDING THE UNIT REQUIREMENTS) and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement. (Only education beyond the second year is creditable to meet this standard.) NOTE: To qualify under this option you must submit transcripts to verify your education and include proof of your experience in the text of your resume.
