Duties

Help

  • Manage a resource program responsible for providing subject matter expertise, resource stewardship actions, and scientific activities to inform management decisions.
  • Manage project budgets, funding proposals, contracts, and agreements.
  • Utilize collected data for data visualization such as preparing tables, graphs, and figures for inclusion in reports, internal and external presentations, and briefing statements.
  • Utilize collected data to prepare organized appendices which support and amplify summarized data of main reports.
  • Read and interpret topographical maps, map symbiology and legal land descriptions.
  • Draft procedures and protocols for use by field staff
  • Provide staff training

  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required by close of vacancy announcement. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • If you are a new employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 02 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • You will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 on an annual basis.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/30/2020.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS for a Geography, GS-0150:

  1. Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. (You must include a copy of your transcripts at the time of application.) -OR-
  2. Combination of education and experience: A combination of education and experience that includes course work equivalent to a major (i.e., 24 semester hours) in geography or related fields. (You must include a copy of your transcripts at the time of application.)
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS for a Physical Science, GS-1301:
  1. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. (You must include a copy of your transcripts at the time of application.) -OR-
  2. Combination of education and experience: A combination of education and experience that includes course work equivalent to a major (i.e., 24 semester hours) in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. (You must include a copy of your transcripts at the time of application.)
Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position.
- AND -
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: at least one year of specialized professional experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include duties such as: such as study, inventory, monitoring, restoration and management of a broad range of natural resources related to biological and physical resources, digital cartography, and geography, development, analysis and use of geographic and relational databases. You must include hours per week worked.
-OR-
EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited educational institution concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position, such as in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position. You must include transcripts.
-OR-
Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have six months of the specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 (50 percent of the experience requirement for GS-11) and 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of appropriate directly related graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement). You must include transcripts.

Documentation for Interagency/Career Transition Assistance Plan consideration if you are a displaced Federal employee within the local commuting area. You must include: 1) Proof you are a displaced Federal employee, e.g., RIF Separation Notice, Notice of Proposed Removal, etc.; 2) SF-50s (Notifications of Personnel Action) showing career/conditional tenure competitive status, promotion potential and duty location; and 3) your most recent performance appraisal. To exercise selection priority, displaced or surplus Federal employees must be rated well-qualified 85 or above on the rating criteria for this position.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

You must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: The work is often sedentary but field work occasionally requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, muddy, uneven, swampy or mountainous terrain; recurring periods of bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Computer work is sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and use computers for long periods of time.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed indoors in a climate controlled office environment. Outdoor work may occur in hot, cold, humid, or weather conditions. Outdoor work may also be required during periods of rain, snow, sleet, fog or other adverse weather conditions.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
