Primary administrative point of contact and receptionist for the park. Budget and Financial Management, Acquisition and Property Management, Human Resources Operations, Office Services, Information Management and/or Advisory Services.

  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/17/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs typing, and typing 40 words per minute with 3 or fewer errors is required. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position.

To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: performing administrative functions (e.g., payroll, personnel, travel, and/or correspondence), using office procedures and equipment, organizing and analyzing numerical information, typing correspondence, memos, reports, and forms from rough drafts, and notes, answering telephone calls, filing, and meeting and dealing effectively with others. You must include hours per week worked.
-OR-
EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree. This education must have been obtained in an an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. You must include transcripts.
-OR-
Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example. I have six months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and three years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) as specified above.You must include transcripts.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: The work of this position is mostly sedentary, requiring long periods of sitting at a desk or computer in an indoor environment. From time to time, the Administrative Assistant must leave the office and visit
outdoor areas of the park or visit other structures such as maintenance shops, warehouses or other storage buildings, visitor centers and other structures in the park where the interpretive program is carried out, campgrounds, concessionaire facilities, housing units, and other sites. The physical demands of these visits generally entail walking around and some lifting and carrying of light license is required to perform the duties.

Working Conditions: Most of the Administrative Support Assistant's work is done indoors in an office where the light, heat,and ventilation are adequate for the work to be done. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting and training rooms, and commercial vehicles. When the Administrative Support Assistant visits maintenance areas, warehouses, or outdoor areas in the park, the working conditions may be less comfortable, and the Administrative Support Assistant may be required to wear protective clothing and to observe safety precautions. The Administrative Support Assistant will have occasional travel to other parks or training sites.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
