Location Information:

Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve has unsurpassed beauty and amazing glaciers and wildlife! Park headquarters is located at Bartlett Cove, at the southern edge of Glacier Bay. Gustavus, a community of just over 400 in winter and 600 in summer, is connected to the park headquarters by a paved road. Bartlett Cove and Gustavus are accessible only by boat and air. Gustavus has a school (K-12) with about 75 students, post office, two churches, clinic, two very small grocery stores, thrift store, and a restaurant that is open 7 months of the year. One TV station is received in Gustavus, although satellite TV service and DVDs are available. A few radio stations are received. The nearest large city is Juneau, which has most amenities of any large city. Daily air taxi service is available to Juneau and other communities. The Alaska State Ferry has periodic service to Gustavus for passengers and vehicles. Most supplies and equipment are transported by ferry or flown in from Juneau. There is a wealth of outdoor activities available including boating, kayaking, fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. Glacier Bay is a temperate rainforest so the weather can be very rainy but temperatures are mild compared to the rest of Alaska.
