Duties

Help
  • Perform as the pilot-in-command of a heavy, multi-engine, turbine powered, transport category airplane under diverse flight conditions.
  • Perform detailed planning to ensure precise flight execution for satisfactory completion of missions.
  • Maintain currency and proficiency as a pilot to conduct : general Use" and special Use" operations, such as dignitary transport, logistical flights, smokejumper operations, international operations and reconnaissance flights.
  • Complete weight and balance calculations, performance determinations, weather briefings, fire situation analysis, lightening tracking, completion of logs, forms, and tracking devices to ensure safe conditions.

Qualifications

This announcement is being advertised concurrently under ST-10696827-20-VG for current and former federal employees serving under a competitive service career or career-conditional appointment or reinstatement eligible. This is a career seasonal permanent position. Initial tour of duty will be full-time. Your services will not be required at certain times due to lack of work, lack of funds, weather conditions or for other reasons. During these periods you will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status. It is expected that you will work at least 6 months per year, but not more than 50 weeks or 25 pay periods on a full-time basis.


Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To be creditable, this experience must have been for 1 year and equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. (If the position was seasonal, your resume must show periods worked.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Minimum eligibility requirements for positions in this occupation are based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the positions.

Certificates and Ratings:Candidates must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate rating or the appropriate military rating. (Note: Candidates establishing eligibility based on military flight experience must provide official orders, forms, or logbooks showing their status as an appropriate rated military pilot. You must submit a copy of your certificates and ratings to show you meet the following requirements:

  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane Multi-Engine Land, Instrument airplane ratings.
Flight Experience:You must possess the flight experience described below that demonstrates the following knowledge and skills:
    • Flying heavy, multi-engine, turbine powered airplane under VMC, IMC, day, and night operating conditions;
    • Operating aircraft ver established routes for transporting passengers, freight, and supplies;
    • Ensuring pre-flight, in-flight, and pst-flight operations were conducted with the standards set by applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations;
    • Ensuring an aircraft is properly maintained;
    • Completing and submitting aircraft maintenance reports, logs, and trip reports; and
    • Performing pre-flight and post-flight inspections.

  • Total Flight Time: 1500 (Current BLM employees can qualify with 1125 hours of total flight time)
  • Pilot-In-Command: 250
  • Night Flying: 75 (Current BLM employees can qualify with 50 hours of night flying time)
  • Flying Time--Last 12 Months: 100 (Current BLM employees can qualify with 50 hours of total flight time in the last 12 months)
  • Multi-Engine Aircraft: 500
Medical Requirements:
  • Current Class I or Class II FAA medical certificate is required. (You must submit a copy of your certificate with your application.)

Physical Demands: The position requires long hours in unpressurized equipment at (sometimes) extreme temperatures and under heavy workloads. Irregular work hours, irregular opportunities to eat, stress levels, heat stress, and demanding workloads are major contributing factors to fatigue.

Working Conditions: The work involves exposure to "special use" flying activities under adverse weather and terrain conditions. Workload demands are great when performing in the wildfire and instrument environments. Hazards exist when operating on high density altitudes and in the low-level environment.
