Duties

Help
  • Provide on-the-job training and evaluates the performance of subordinates adhering to guidelines.
  • Ensure safe work practices are followed around aircraft, trucks, forklifts, loading docks, and in the warehouse, this includes the proper use of protective gear.
  • Organizes and schedules work shifts for required warehouse coverage and the optimum utilization of crew time.
  • Manages and operates all warehouse equipment in confined spaces and around aircraft, overseeing all safety practices and reporting any unsafe conditions.
  • Monitors the handling and shipping process of Hazardous Materials and ensures the appropriate safety, labeling, documentation, and storage procedures are followed.

Qualifications

This is a career seasonal permanent position. Initial tour of duty will be full-time. Your services will not be required at certain times due to lack of work, lack of funds, weather conditions or for other reasons. During these periods you will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status. It is expected that you will work at least 6 months per year, but not more than 50 weeks or 25 pay periods on a full-time basis. I am willing to accept these conditions.

Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your written resume that you have the ability to independently do the work of the position, as defined below, without more than normal supervision. Experience includes: providing on-the-job training to new hires; scheduling work shifts to ensure coverage; interviewing and make recommends for hire, promotion, and/or disciplinary actions; receiving goods and materials in a warehouse; managing warehouse inventory system; examining stock for deterioration and damage; packing and shipping hazardous materials according to the CFR-49; operating a variety of material handling equipment such as banding machine, hand truck, pallet jack to move stock; operating stock picker and forklift up to 10,000 lbs. capacity; and performing normal operator maintenance on equipment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must be rated at least at the acceptable level in these elements to receive further consideration.

Physical Demands: Work involves frequent standing, stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and kneeling positions. Frequently lifts, moves, pushes, pulls, and carries supplies, materials, and equipment weighing up to and often exceeding seventy 70 pounds. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time.
Working Conditions: Incumbent works inside and outside, on aircraft ramps, airstrips, helibases, loading docks, warehouses, and storage yards. Inside areas may be hot, cold, damp, drafty and poorly lighted. Outside work is subject to a variety of weather conditions, loud engine noise and exhaust fumes, from both fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft and other machinery. Subject to hazards from aircraft, machinery, and volatile materials. When operating forklift, is also subject to hazards of shifting loads, toppling stacks, and/or possible forklift overturning.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

How you will be evaluated
